LAS VEGAS, NV — Bombard Renewable Energy has recently donated, and completed work on , a $25,000 solar electrical system for the Las Vegas ShadeTree Women's shelter.

Bombard's solar donation was combined with the City of Las Vegas' new Green Chips program. The Green Chips program provided $20,000 for energy efficiency retrofitting to ShadeTree's main building.

The new energy retrofits, combined with donated solar electrical system, will reduce ShadeTree's $5,000 monthly power bill by approximately ten percent.

The Las Vegas City Council recently approved plans to enter into a pilot program with Green Chips, a non-profit organization, to perform energy audits and retrofits for 10 qualifying low income households and The Shade Tree shelter, at no cost to the participants.

A total of $90,000 is available to the city of Las Vegas through the Green Building Special Revenue Fund/Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant via the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The grant will be used to launch the program.

“Entering into this agreement gives the city of Las Vegas the opportunity to provide the initial funding for this very worthwhile program,” said Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman. “This $90,000 in seed money will help to ensure the success of the new program and will serve as the catalyst for Green Chips to secure more funding to help even more people implement energy saving improvements. This will be a win-win for the city, for Green Chips, for the environment and for our community.”

Green Chips is a local non-profit corporation whose staff works to combine the resources of public agencies and the private sector, to develop green programs that provide direct, immediate benefits to the community and its citizens.
